Elective and Emergency Surgical Procedure
Our appointment book is computerized, which allows us to efficiently make appointments for you and your pet. Our receptionists and team will attempt to accommodate all requests to the best of our ability. Emergencies are accepted anytime our clinic is open. If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, please call us or come in immediately. If possible,it is best to call before coming in so that a staff member can advise you on your particular emergency.
We have a veterinarian and personnel on duty five days a week who are trained and equipped to handle any urgent care your pet has. Usually an emergency team consists of at least one veterinarian and several technicians working together to save a pet's life. Emergencies can be things such as accidental ingestion of rat poison, hit by car, and chocolate ingestion. If you ever feel that your pet needs emergency treatment do not hesitate to call or come in immediately.
We are also available for urgent care when the condition is not life-threatening. If you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment, our veterinarians will work to "squeeze" you in between scheduled appointments. When you arrive, our receptionists will be able to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait in order to be seen.
Orthopedic and Soft Tissue Surgery
Chestnut Arbor is equipped to handle routine and complex surgeries, including more advanced soft tissue surgeries such as splenectomy, cystotomy, c-section and gastrointestinal surgery. Our partnership with a board-certified veterinary surgeon allows us to offer a number of very advanced surgical procedures, including orthopedics, without the need for referral to a specialty center. Highly skilled veterinary nurses monitor your pet's safety and comfort before, during and after all surgical procedures. If your pet requires surgery done by a board-certified surgeon, Chestnut Arbor will work with you to facilitate a referral to a trusted specialty care center.
Oral and Dental Care
Studies show that more than 80% of dogs and cats have some form of periodontal disease by the age of three. Our approach to dental care for pets starts at the very first visit and continues throughout life. We provide education on home dental care, as well as counsel you as to the best approach to yearly dental prophylaxis to keep your pet's mouth and body healthy.
Our dental procedures include pre-operative labwork, intravenous catheters, IV fluids, patient specific anesthesia plan, continuous anesthetic monitoring, full mouth dental cleaning/scaling and polishing, as well as hand recovery with one of our nursing staff members. All of our dental patients go home with a goodie bag full of samples of home dental care products so that we can continue to keep their mouths healthy at home.
Radiology & Ultrasound
Chestnut Arbor offers the latest in digital x-ray technology to provide fast, high quality images of your pet. Our partnership with board-certified veterinary radiologists gives you the reassurance and peace of mind you deserve. Dr. Merlo has advanced training in both abdominal ultrasound and echocardiography (cardiac ultrasound exams) which allows in-depth diagnostics to be performed in the comfort of our hospital setting.
